I Will Not Be Quiet
by Lisa Q. Brownrigg
Shame, as if it were a constricting python wrapping its body around you, draining you of air, can keep you silent. It can keep you quiet even when you notice it slithering toward you. No one wants the snake to approach, but it will anyway. What are you going to do about it? Will you run or stay still and hope it crawls past, or will you be like I was for years and let it get closer and closer, wishing it would go away. Horror opened my mouth to scream, but shame closed it again. But my Prince, my Knight in shining armor, rescued me and tore the snake from me. He threw it to the ground with great force and crushed its head. Turning to me, he opened his arms even though I had been soaked in the snake's filth. He opened his arms to me anyway. He opened his arms to me anyway!
